About Dr Joyline Schwitters
Dr Joyline Schwitters is a psychotherapist and relationship therapist practising at City Sanctuary Therapy in London Bridge, the City of London, and Milton Keynes, and also offers online therapy. She works with adults and couples and has over 16 years of clinical experience supporting individuals with a wide range of psychological and relational difficulties. Dr Schwitters treats a broad range of conditions, including anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, trauma, post-traumatic stress, bereavement and loss, identity-related difficulties, insomnia and fatigue, mood disturbances, unresolved childhood experiences, and challenges relating to life transitions and decision-making. She also works with couples experiencing communication difficulties, conflict, trust issues, infidelity, co-dependency, parenting challenges, intimacy concerns, and relationship breakdown. Her clinical approach is primarily psychodynamic and psychoanalytic, supported by cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and integrative methods. She also incorporates attachment-based, relational, interpersonal, mindfulness-based, and culturally sensitive approaches where appropriate. In her work with couples, she applies a developmental approach to couples therapy alongside practical relationship frameworks. Her practice is tailored to individual needs, combining exploratory and structured therapeutic methods. Dr Schwitters is accredited by the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and is an Accredited Professional Registrant with the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS), including recognition as a relationship therapist. Alongside her clinical work, she is a lecturer at the Institute of Couples Therapy, where she teaches on post-qualification training programmes. She previously lectured on the MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy at Birkbeck, University of London. Dr Schwitters holds a Doctorate in Psychodynamic/Psychoanalytic Clinical Practice from the University of Exeter and a Master’s degree in Psychodynamic Theory and Practice from the University of Roehampton.
