About Prof John Dickinson
Professor John Dickinson is an Exercise Respiratory Physiologist at Marylebone Health Group(CHHP) and is a Professor in Sports and Exercise Sciences at the University of Kent. Prof Dickinson has over 16 years of experience in Sports and Exercise Science, completing his Bachelor's degree in Sports Science in 2002 at Bangor University in Wales. In 2003, Prof Dickinson began working at the Olympic Medical Institute in Northwick Park Hospital as a research assistant. During this position, he began his PhD research surrounding the prevalence, diagnosis and treatment of exercise-induced asthma in elite athletes. In 2004, he became a research physiologist at the English Institute of Sport where he further investigated respiratory problems in elite athletes. He was awarded his PhD by Brunel University in 2006 and was accredited as a Sports and Exercise Physiologist by the British Association of Sports and Exercise Sciences (BASES) in the same year. Prof Dickinson has clinical interests in breathing training for both professional and amateur athletes. He has tested over 1000 elite athletes across several Olympic and professional sports, including rugby and Premier League football. At MHG, he assesses exercise respiratory symptoms in athletes, with extensive experience in the area.
