Im Jahr 2001 erlangte er die Anerkennung als Facharzt für Nuklearmedizin. Von 2002 bis 2003 vertiefte er seine Kenntnisse in der Radiologie im Rahmen einer Weiterbildung in der Klinik für Radiologie und Nuklearmedizin im Städtischen Klinikum Braunschweig. Dr. med. Döhring ist Mitglied der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Nuklearmedizin und des Berufsverbandes Deutscher Nuklearmediziner (DGN). Zudem engagiert er sich als Prüfer der Ärztlichen Stelle der Ärztekammer Niedersachsen.
