Mr Javaid Ahmad Muglu is a Lead Consultant in Gynaecological Oncology and an Advanced Laparoscopic Gynaecological Surgeon at University Hospital Lewisham. He has a specialist interest in cancer prevention and screening, alongside advanced operative management of gynaecological conditions. He is particularly focused on the early identification of gynaecological cancers and has established “one-stop” services within his NHS practice, offering same-appointment ultrasound scanning and biopsy clinics to streamline diagnosis and care.
His clinical expertise also includes laparoscopic excisional surgery for endometriosis, as well as managing reproductive health concerns in peri-menopausal and post-menopausal women.
Mr Muglu obtained Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2013 and was awarded Fellowship of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2019. He completed his initial medical education in Kashmir before moving to the UK for specialist training. He undertook advanced training in gynaecological oncology at Barts Cancer Centre and The Royal London Hospital, becoming an RCOG-accredited specialist in both gynaecological oncology and general gynaecology. Through this training, he developed extensive expertise in both laparoscopic and open surgical techniques for benign and malignant conditions.
He previously served as Clinical Director for Gynaecological Services at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust and continues to hold several national and regional leadership roles aimed at improving standards of gynaecological care. He is currently the Gynaecological Chair of the Southeast London Cancer Alliance and Chair of the Non-Admitted Gynaecology stream for the Acute Provider Collaborative in Southeast London. In addition, he is a member of the Council of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, representing South London.
Mr Muglu is actively involved in research and education, regularly presenting at national and international conferences. He has led and contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications, including high-impact research in stillbirths. He is also a dedicated mentor and educator, supporting the development of junior doctors and fellow consultants in advancing their surgical skills.
