About
Dr. Heliel holds a medical degree and a Master’s in Neuropsychiatry from the University of Alexandria, Egypt, and became a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) in 2003. He received his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in General Adult Psychiatry with an endorsement in Substance Misuse in 2007.
His areas of expertise include:
• Substance misuse and dual diagnosis: including inpatient and community detox programmes, opiate substitution therapy, and culturally informed addiction care.
• Neuropsychiatry: managing conditions such as epilepsy and multiple sclerosis following four years of specialist training.
• Complex case management: with experience in inpatient care under the Mental Health Act and treating first-episode psychosis with comorbid addiction.
• Expert witness work: producing over 150 court-commissioned psychiatric reports.
Dr. Heliel is also active in teaching and clinical leadership, contributing to guideline implementation, clinical governance, and service development. He offers evidence-based, person-centred care supported by multidisciplinary collaboration.
