His clinical expertise spans a wide range of paediatric conditions, with a particular focus on lower gastrointestinal (GI) and colorectal surgery, including paediatric laparoscopy, anorectal malformations, Hirschsprung’s disease, pilonidal sinus disease, umbilical hernias, inguinal hernias, tongue ties and undescended testes.

Throughout his career, Mr. Thakkar has been recognised with numerous awards, including the Young Consultant of the Year from Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in 2021 and the esteemed Alex Simpson Smith Travelling Fellowship Award for child health research in 2019.

In addition to his clinical work, Mr. Thakkar is committed to medical education and research. He serves as the educational lead for the Paediatric Surgery Department at Evelina London Children’s Hospital and as an undergraduate tutor for medical students at King’s College London. He has recently been promoted to the post of Honorary Senior Lecturer at King's College London. His research interests include anorectal malformations and pilonidal sinus disease. He actively promotes innovation and quality improvement in his field.
