Dr. Hameed Raina

Dr. Hameed Raina, MBBS, MD (Internal Medicine), DM (Gastroenterology & Hepatology), MRCP-UK (SCE), FMPB, FEUS, FATE, is an internationally trained, highly accomplished Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist with over 15 years of experience in managing complex gastrointestinal, pancreatic, and liver diseases. He serves as HOD & Director of Endoscopy, Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist, Advanced Diagnostic and Therapeutic Endoscopist and Endosonographer (EUS), and Third Space and Bariatric Endoscopist at Medcare Hospital Sharjah.

 

He is recognized as one of the leading experts in Therapeutic and Third Space Endoscopy, Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), Enteroscopy, and GERD management in the UAE. With more than 20,000 successful endoscopic procedures performed — including thousands of EUS procedures, hundreds of Third Space Endoscopic procedures (POEMs and ESDs), and advanced anti-reflux endoscopic procedures — he is known for delivering highly specialized, minimally invasive treatments that help patients avoid surgery, preserve organs, recover faster, and achieve excellent clinical outcomes.

Dr. Raina has introduced and established several advanced endoscopic techniques in the private healthcare sector in Abu Dhabi, including E-POEM, ESD, POES, G-POEM, EFTR/STER, ARMA/ARMS, EUS-guided liver biopsy, gastric and rectal variceal coiling, pancreatic duct drainage, Double Balloon/Power Spiral Enteroscopy, and endoscopic management of haemorrhoids. His expertise significantly expanded access to minimally invasive alternatives to surgery in the region. His clinical practice focuses on complex and high-risk cases, including redo procedures and referrals after failed interventions from across the region.

Third Space Endoscopy including POEM for achalasia, G-POEM for gastroparesis, ESD and EFTR/STER for scarless removal of early and subepithelial tumours, and POES for Zenker’s diverticulum.

Advanced diagnostic and interventional GI and mediastinal EUS, including staging, tissue acquisition, biliary, gallbladder and pancreatic drainage, vascular coiling, EUS-guided gastrojejunostomy, nerve blocks for pain, and tumour ablation with RFA.

Hepato-pancreatobiliary diseases with advanced endoscopic and EUS-guided diagnosis and treatment, including complex ERCPs, cholangioscopy, and EUS-guided biliary and pancreatic drainage.

Non-surgical obesity management with bariatric endoscopy including Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG), TORe for post-bypass weight regain and dumping syndrome, intragastric balloon placement, and medical obesity management.

Endoscopic management of chronic and refractory acid reflux disease (GERD) and Barrett’s oesophagus using ARMA, ARMS, ARMA-PV, GERDx, and RFA techniques.

Gut motility disorders including achalasia cardia, esophageal hyper/hypomotility disorders, gastroparesis, dyssynergic defecation, constipation, and Hirschsprung’s disease, with expertise in high-resolution manometry and biofeedback therapy.

Dr. Hameed completed his MBBS, MD in Internal Medicine, and DM in Gastroenterology & Hepatology from reputed institutions in Kashmir and India, followed by MRCP-UK (SCE). He further pursued advanced fellowships in Motility Disorders, High Resolution Manometry and Biofeedback (FMPB), Endoscopic Ultrasound (FEUS), and Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy (FATE), along with specialized training in Third Space Endoscopy across leading centres in India, South Korea, Japan, and China.

He has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications in international indexed journals and serves as a reviewer for leading journals including Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (GIE). He is a regular invited speaker and faculty member at national and international conferences and actively mentors advanced endoscopy trainees worldwide.
