Fatma Elgengehy is a highly experienced Rheumatologist with over 20 years of clinical and academic practice. She serves as a Professor and Consultant of Rheumatology at Kasr Alaini Hospital Cairo University, one of the country’s largest tertiary referral centres, where she combines patient care with active involvement in research and medical education.
Her clinical expertise focuses on the diagnosis and management of a wide spectrum of complex rheumatological conditions. These include inflammatory arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and reactive arthritis, as well as connective tissue diseases including lupus, Sjögren’s syndrome, systemic sclerosis, and inflammatory muscle disorders. She also treats vasculitic conditions such as polymyalgia rheumatica and giant cell arteritis, alongside crystal arthropathies like gout.
In addition, she manages patients with ankylosing spondylitis and related spondyloarthropathies, osteoporosis and other metabolic bone disorders, fibromyalgia, chronic pain syndromes, and general musculoskeletal complaints such as back pain and osteoarthritis. Her procedural skills include joint aspiration and therapeutic injections, and she is experienced in prescribing both conventional disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) and advanced biologic therapies.
Dr Elgengehy completed her medical degree (MB BCh), Master’s degree, and Doctorate in Rheumatology at Cairo University. Alongside her clinical work, she maintains a strong interest in advancing rheumatology through research, contributing to improved understanding and treatment of complex autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
