Her areas of special interest include children's bladder and bowel problems such as night time wetting, day time wetting, some children's kidney problems and urinary tract infections.
Dr El Rifai graduated from Damascus University Faculty of Medicine in 1985. She attained a Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in 1995 and a Fellowship of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in 2004. She holds a Diploma in Medical Ethics and Philisophy of Medicine from the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries in London, in 2003.
In addition, Dr El Rifai is interested in medical education and she is an examiner for the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. She is also interested in the medical and research ethics and she served for a few years on the local research ethics committee. She is interested research regarding children's bladder and bowel disorders. She also has many professional memberships including International Children's Continence Society, American Academy of Pediatrics, International Pediatric Nephrology Association, International Continence Society, Society of International Urology and European Urological Association.
