About Dr Michael Pelly
Many physicians in the UK train in general internal medicine before pursuing a specialist interest, and sometimes the role of the general internal physician, who provides an overview, can be lost in specialist opinions. Dr Pelly's clinical practice has remained diverse, and he treats patients of all ages, from young adults suffering from post-travel illness to the elderly suffering from more complex issues. He is an experienced consultant who is used to dealing with a wide range of diseases and disorders and is known for his meticulous and thorough approach, especially when dealing with referrals where the diagnosis is unclear. He takes a holistic approach to care and starts his consultations with a full history and examination to take into account the person as a whole before putting together a plan for further investigation and treatment. Dr Pelly also has a particular interest in humanitarian action, specifically disease prevention and the management of large-scale crises and disasters. He has substantial expertise in African famine relief and has experience working in long-term programme development in Afghanistan, Iran, and North Korea. He has also served as an external medical advisor to a TB/HIV programme for the International Federation of the Red Cross in the former Soviet Union
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
