Professor Faizel Osman is Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW), BMI Meriden Coventry and Nuffield Warwickshire Hospital. He is head of Cardiac Arrhythmia Management at UHCW and was appointed to lead this new service for patients in Coventry and Warwickshire in 2008. Faizel qualified from University of Wales College of Medicine in 1995 with commendation. He is also Honorary Professor of Cardiology with Warwick University (Warwick Medical School) and Coventry University.
Professor Osman was appointed to start and lead a new arrhythmia service for Coventry and Warwickshire in April 2008. He has extensive experience in cardiac device implants and cardiac electrophysiology and ablation. He also holds specialist accreditations from several organisations including Heart Rhythm UK, International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (US) and the European Heart Rhythm Association. He regularly speaks at courses for cardiologists in training.
Prof Osman's specialist interests include all aspects of cardiac electrophysiology and ablation, implantable cardioverter defibrillators, cardiac resynchronisation therapy for symptomatic heart failure, permanent pacemaker implants, syncope, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and sudden cardiac death risk assessment.
Medical/Surgical Training:
Prof Osman's early training was at University Hospital Birmingham and he was awarded a British Heart Foundation Research Fellowship in Cardiology in 1999 with several high profile publications resulting from the research. He subsequently trained as a specialist registrar in cardiology within the West Midlands region and sub-specialist training in arrhythmia management (cardiac electrophysiology and device therapy) at University Hospital Birmingham, University Hospital of North Staffordshire and University Hospital Leicester (Glenfield).
Research Interests: Prof Osman is active in research with several high impact journal publications and supervised several PhD fellows. He holds several major grants and his specialist areas of interest include arrhythmias (such as AF/VT), sudden cardiac death perdiction, arrhythmias in sleep apnea and cardiac resynchronisation thearpy.
