About

Christopher Peters is a London based Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal and General Surgeon working at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and the Harley Street Clinic. He went to University of Leeds Medical School and then remained in West Yorkshire for his early surgical training with placements in Transplant surgery, Accident and Emergency and Intensive care.

After completing his basic surgical training, he moved to Cambridge to carry out a PhD in predicting outcomes in Oesophageal cancer, during which he co-founded the OCCAMS Consortium which has gone on to become one of the leading research groups for Oesophageal cancer in Europe.

On completion of his PhD he moved to London for his higher surgical training with placements at three major Upper GI resectional units, St Thomas's, The Royal Marsden and Imperial. At the end of his surgical training he was appointed as a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal and General Surgeon and Clinical Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London, working at St Marys and Hammersmith Hospitals.

His sub speciality surgical interests include Oesophageal and Gastric cancer surgery, with radical lymphadenectomy, and benign Upper Gastrointestinal surgery including laparoscopic fundoplication and cholecystectomy. In addition, he has a great deal of experience of general and hernia surgery including complex redo incisional hernia repairs with a hybrid laparoscopic / open approach.

His research programme is built around understanding how we can use new technologies such as molecular profiling, genome sequencing, and other biomarkers to make better decisions about how we treat cancer patients. He is also developing new imaging technologies to allow greater precision during surgery.
