Dr Apurna Jegannathen is a highly respected Consultant Clinical Oncologist based in Birmingham, specialising in the treatment of breast cancer, lung cancer, and carcinoma of unknown primary. With expertise in a wide range of advanced therapies—including chemotherapy, targeted therapy, radical radiotherapy, stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR), and personalised precision treatments using next-generation sequencing Dr Jegannathen provides cutting-edge, individualised cancer care.
She holds key leadership roles, including SABR Lead and Lung Cancer Lead at the University Hospital of North Midlands, and Deputy Chair of the West Midlands Lung Cancer Advisory Group. A former Clinical Director for cancer services at UHNM, she has led multidisciplinary teams across oncology, haematology, palliative care, and immunology.
Dr Jegannathen trained at the Christie Hospital in Manchester and Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Birmingham, and completed a fellowship at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto. She is Principal Investigator on several clinical trials and has published widely in peer-reviewed journals.
Passionate about education and innovation, she teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate students and leads regional oncology education events. Beyond medicine, Dr Jegannathen is an accomplished musician and advocates for music therapy, playing the Indian classical instrument, the Veena.
