Dr Diarmaid Ó Lonargáin is a Clinical Psychologist currently practising at Hawthorn Psychology. He completed his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Lancaster University in 2014 and has extensive experience working across both public and private healthcare settings.
Diarmaid has worked with a range of multidisciplinary teams within the Health Service Executive (HSE), including Rehabilitation Mental Health Services and Adult Mental Health Services. Most recently, he held the role of Senior Clinical Psychologist with a Children’s Disability Network Team, where autism assessment and intervention formed a central part of his work. In this role, Diarmaid conducted comprehensive autism assessments for children as part of a multidisciplinary team and provided therapeutic support to autistic adolescents and their families.
Alongside his public sector experience, Diarmaid has significant expertise in delivering multidisciplinary autism assessments within the private sector, having worked with two established private services before founding his own practice in 2022.
In his therapeutic work, Diarmaid draws on a range of evidence-based models, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), and behavioural approaches. His integrative style allows him to tailor therapy to the individual needs of each client, supporting meaningful and sustainable change.
