About Mr David Grimes
Mr David Grimes is a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at Evelina London and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, appointed in 2020. He is one of a limited number of consultants in the UK specialising in cleft lip and palate surgery, providing care to both children and adults through the Evelina Cleft Service. Mr Grimes holds dual degrees in medicine and dentistry. He began his career in general dental practice before entering oral and maxillofacial surgical training at King’s College Hospital, London. He went on to complete his medical degree at St George’s Medical School and undertook higher surgical training in the East Midlands. His sub-specialist interest in cleft care led to fellowships in Swansea and at Birmingham Children’s Hospital through the nationally appointed JCST Interface Cleft Fellowship. He received his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in 2020. His surgical expertise spans the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, with particular interests in orthognathic (jaw) surgery, complex extractions, jaw cysts, bone grafting, and sinus lift procedures. Mr Grimes actively contributes to multidisciplinary care, medical education, and research, having published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at national and international conferences. He is also involved in training junior doctors and surgeons in cleft surgery and other maxillofacial procedures.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
