Upon arriving in Australia, Dr O'Brien worked in intensive care and anaesthetics, completing further training. Dr O'Brien then finished their anaesthetic fellowship.
Dr O'Brien has a special interest in Pre-hospital and Retrieval Medicine and completed an additional fellowship in this area. Their research publications are in the area of pneumonitis and ventilation compliance, with this research being accepted for presentation at international conferences.
