About

Dr. Dan Brettell is an internationally-trained comprehensive ophthalmologist with expertise in cataract surgery, glaucoma treatment, retinal diseases, and subspecialty training in oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids. Raised in Wagga Wagga, Dr. Brettell moved to Sydney to complete his medical degree at UNSW with Honours. He then completed his general medical training at Bankstown/Lidcombe and Campbelltown Hospitals, working across regional and rural areas of the state. Furthering his commitment to ophthalmology, Dr. Brettell obtained a Master’s degree in Ophthalmic Science from the University of Sydney, graduating top of his class.

Dr. Brettell began his Ophthalmology training at Sydney Eye Hospital and later completed a fellowship in Oculoplastic Surgery in Hereford, UK. His dedication to global healthcare led him to participate in the Myanmar Eye Care Program, where he conducted research on cataract surgery and the patterns of skin cancers affecting the eyelids.

Dan currently works at Coastwide Eye Surgery, and operates privately at Central Coast Day Hospital and Tuggerah Lakes Private Hospital. He also operates publicly at Gosford and Wyong Public Hospitals. Dr. Brettell is a member of the Australian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (AUSCRS) and the Australian & New Zealand Society of Oculoplastic Surgeons (ANZSOPS).

Dr. Brettell treats a wide range of conditions, including general ophthalmology, cataract surgery, paediatric ophthalmology, glaucoma, corneal eye disease, macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic eye disease, and performs diagnostic eye procedures.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
