About Dr Conrad von Stempel
Dr. Conrad von Stempel was appointed as a Consultant Interventional Vascular and Uroradiologist at University College Hospital (UCH) and the Royal Free Hospital in October 2019. He collaborates closely with the Urology cancer, Endoluminal Urology, and Vascular teams at both hospitals. His expertise includes performing procedures such as vascular access (including Port-o-cath insertion), prostate artery embolisation (PAE) for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and complex angioplasty for crural (lower leg) arterial disease. He is also skilled in emergency procedures such as embolisation, nephrostomies, drainages, and transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunts (TIPS). Dr. von Stempel's research interests focus on men's health and cancer, and he has internationally recognised publications in areas including priapism, erectile dysfunction, prostate cancer, metastatic colorectal cancer, and neuroendocrine cancers. Dr. von Stempel completed his medical training at University College London (UCL) Medical School from 2005 to 2011, graduating with Distinction. In 2008, he earned a BSc in Anatomy and Embryology from UCL with First Class Honours. Accepted into the Academic Foundation Programme, he worked for the Oxford University Hospital NHS Trust at the John Radcliffe, Churchill, and Horton hospitals from 2011 to 2013, where he conducted molecular epidemiology research into prenatal causes of childhood blood cancer, supported by the Children with Cancer charity. During this time, he also served as a College Lecturer in Anatomy and Embryology at Keble College, Oxford, where he continues to teach. Dr. von Stempel began his radiology training at UCLH in 2013, achieving Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists in 2016. He then completed a two-year Interventional Radiology fellowship at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists and a member of the British Society of Interventional Radiology.
