Dr Claire Irving is a paediatric cardiologist at Sydney Adventist Hospital, who treats children with all types of congenital and acquired heart disease. She also screens for cardiac issues in families and provides echocardiographic and clinical evaluation of all cardiac disorders. Dr Irving completed her postgraduate paediatric training in the UK before specialising in cardiology at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. During her training, she completed a clinical fellowship in the USA as well as a transplant research fellowship in the UK. Following this, Dr Irving relocated to Australia to work with Sydney Children's Hospital Network as a staff specialist at the Children's Hospital Westmead and Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick.
Dr Irving has a significant interest in research and has several publications in peer-reviewed journals. She also holds a postgraduate MD degree which focused on antibody formation following heart transplantation. She currently serves on the council of an international transplant society and is regularly invited to lecture at conferences worldwide on the topics of heart failure and transplantation. Dr Irving is also interested in medical education and is a senior clinical lecturer at the University of Sydney.
Outside of the hospital, Dr Irving enjoys being active and exploring Sydney, spending time with her three young children, and training for marathons.
