Dr Christolyn Raj holds ophthalmology consultations at the Royal Children's Hospital and Mercy Hospital for Women. Dr Raj qualified in 2005 from the University of Sydney before completing her honours thesis at the Save Sight Institute in Sydney. She then trained in ophthalmology at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne before undertaking fellowship training where she worked with experts in the revolutionary field of intravitreal injections. Dr Raj has carried out substantial research in the area of diabetes and has a number of peer-reviewed publications in journals such as the Emergency Medicine Journal, Environmental Health, and the Journal of Surgical Sciences. She has carried out research into retinal vascular disease with a particular focus on diabetic retinopathy and is currently working with The Diabetes Institute in Melbourne.
Dr Raj also has a passion for medical education and, as well as co-authoring a textbook on retinal vascular disease, she delivers lectures to medical students at the University of Melbourne. She is also a RANZCO clinical tutor and examiner, a member of the Royal Australian College of Ophthalmologists, and a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr Raj understands the importance of a holistic approach to eye care and has, as a result, founded ‘The Retinal Hub' which is an initiative designed to encourage the sharing of knowledge and communication between ophthalmology and optometry.
