About
Prof Gericke is a Neurologist, Epileptologist, and Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Australian National University. He also serves as Squadron Leader and Aerospace Neurologist in the Royal Australian Air Force.
Previously, he worked as an academic neurologist at Calvary Mater Newcastle, The Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane, King’s College Hospital London, and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.
After graduating from medical school in Berlin, he trained in neurology at the Charité, followed by adult and paediatric epilepsy fellowships in Strasbourg and Geneva. He holds two research doctorates and master’s degrees from the Universities of Cambridge and London.
He chairs the Therapeutics Committee of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists (ANZAN), the Neuroepidemiology Section of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and serves on the International League against Epilepsy (ILAE) Standards and Best Practice Council, developing new international guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy.
His special interests include:
· Epilepsy, including first seizures, complex epilepsy, transition from paediatrics to adult care, epilepsy in pregnancy, developmental and intellectual disabilities
· Aerospace neurology for civilian and military pilots
· Medico-legal expert in neurology
