Raj was born in Seychelles and raised in Nigeria, India, and the UK. After graduating from Westminster Medical School, he continued his general surgical training in various centres throughout England, including research in Harvard, USA. Raj became a Consultant General Surgeon in Airedale, Yorkshire. He retired early from the NHS and moved to Australia in 2011.
He was Director of Surgery in Mount Isa before relocating to Rockhampton in 2016,
where he worked as a Senior Consultant Surgeon until 2022.
Throughout his career, Raj’s principal interests have been in gastrointestinal surgery, particularly colorectal surgery. In 1990, he became involved in the development of laparoscopic surgery and went on to preceptor and teach laparoscopic colorectal surgery to consultant colorectal surgeons in the UK.
Raj has commenced private practice as a general surgeon with a particular interest in colorectal surgery. Raj is also experienced in laparoscopic biliary and hernia surgery.
Raj is an accredited endoscopist with regular lists at the Hillcrest Private Hospital. Raj welcomes open-access referrals from general practitioners.

Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy, Rectal Bleeding, Haemorrhoids, Benign/Cancerous Bowel and Peri-Anal Diseases, Gall Bladder Removal, Appendicectomy, Hernia Repairs, Paediatric Hernia and Skin Lesions, Varicose Veins.
