He went on to receive an Academic Clinical Fellowship at UCL and completed his respiratory specialist training in North East London, with rotations at leading centres including St Bartholomew’s Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital. In 2020, he was awarded a PhD from UCL for his research on using DNA sequencing to diagnose drug resistance in tuberculosis, publishing several first-author papers on drug-resistant respiratory infections.
He remains actively involved in medical education, supervising resident doctors and contributing to national respiratory training and recruitment. In addition to his specialist respiratory work, Dr Nimmo also brings broad clinical experience through his involvement in the general medical and high dependency unit services at Northwick Park Hospital.
