Dr. Byron is a highly experienced consultant in the field of Diagnostic and Interventional Cardiology, having completed his specialist training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at Baragwanath Hospital, Johannesburg, South Africa from 1989 to 1995. He began his career in 1993 when he qualified as a Specialist Physician, followed by a 2-year fellowship program, after which he qualified as a Cardiologist in 1995.
Dr. Byron has extensive experience as a Senior Consultant in Medicine and Cardiology, having worked at Baragwanath Hospital until 1999 before venturing into private practice. He has also worked as a Consultant in Cardiology at reputable private hospitals in South Africa such as Flora Clinic and Milpark Hospital, and in the UAE at Mediclinic City Hospital. Over the course of his career, he has performed Coronary Interventions (Angioplasty/Stent procedures) on over 6000 patients, making him one of the more experienced interventional cardiologists in the region.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Byron has also participated in several multi-centre research studies and registries, as well as Basic Science Stem Cell Research. He is particularly interested in Stem Cell Research and has maintained a keen interest in this field over the years. He was also one of the initial participants in the pioneering ‘multi-vessel stenting trials’ which started in the late 90’s and continued with the ‘DES’ trials thereafter.
