About Dr Anish Jindal

Dr Jindal currently works in both tertiary care at Moorfields Eye Hospital -MEH and academia, which includes UCL and has 20 years of experience in a multitude of clinical services. Within Moorfields, he currently works in A&E, Glaucoma, External disease, where he is also the Principal Optometrist in Glaucoma, as well as being a Consultant Optometrist at the Phoenix Hospital Group. He has taught and led modules on the optometry/ophthalmology programmes at both BSc and MSc levels at City, University of London and UCL for over 15 years.

Dr Anish Jindal's specialisations include: managing and treating dry eyes, red eyes, acute eye care conditions, general ophthalmic conditions, glaucoma, refractions and contact lenses fitting that includes multifocal lenses and RGP lenses for irregular corneas.

He was the first optometrist in UCL's history to gain Associate Professor status at UCL. He is currently the Deputy Programme Director for the MSc Ophthalmology and Optometry Advanced Clinical Practice programmes, UCL. He is also MSc module lead for ocular emergencies and research modules, and was previously the Joint Associate Director for Education at UCL-MEH as well as programme director for the independent prescribing programme.

Dr Jindal has represented the optometry profession as a councillor for the Association of Optometrists and has gained international recognition by the College of Optometrists as a Fellow which recognises excellence and is a driver of national clinical care, research and education. He also works with the College of Optometrists as a National Subject Matter Expert in Glaucoma and a committee member of the independent prescribing IP common final assessment, where he was part of the first 50 optometrists in the UK to gain Independent Prescribing status in 2011, and he has lectured extensively in this field. He is passionate about education and research that will enable the next generation of advanced practice as well as delivering the latest evidence-based treatments for patients.

Research interests include primary angle closure glaucoma detection and management, artificial intelligence in clinical decision making and advanced clinical practice, in particular the area of utilising technology and education to improve clinical services in both primary and secondary care, where he has published and presented over 50 of papers/posters/lectures in these fields that have supported national and international clinical guidelines.
