About

Mr Alexander Ashmore is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in Hip Surgery at The Ridgeway Hospital. He completed his medical degree at the University of Bristol in 1998, followed by six months in Accident and Emergency service at the Bristol Royal Infirmary and a subsequent period as an Anatomy Demonstrator at the university. He later spent 18 months in Perth, Australia, gaining expertise in intensive care, neurosurgery, and cardiothoracic surgery. Upon returning to the UK, he completed his basic surgical training in Bath, followed by his higher surgical training on the Oxford Trauma and Orthopaedic rotation. After completing his training, he was awarded a British Orthopaedic Association travelling fellowship and completed specialised training in Wellington, New Zealand, and at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford.

Mr Ashmore was appointed as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the Great Western Hospital Swindon in 2014, specialising in hip replacement surgery. In his current clinical practice, Mr Ashmore sees patients with hip and groin pain, hip arthritis, hip complications and hip labral tears. He has specialist expertise in hip arthroscopy, hip injections, hip replacement surgery, and revision hip surgery.

Alongside his clinical work, Mr Ashmore has multiple peer-reviewed publications in esteemed journals, such as the British Medical Journal and the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, garnering over 218 citations. He won Lecturer of the Year for his keynote adult hip lecture at the Oxford Comprehensive Orthopaedic Revision Course in 2015. He was also awarded the Golden Hip Award in 2019 for his work as the orthopaedic lead for hip fracture surgery.
