About Dr Adam Hartley
Dr. Adam Hartley is a Consultant Cardiologist specialising in coronary and structural intervention at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. He also serves as an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer in Cardiovascular Sciences at the National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI), Imperial College London. He is cardiology departmental lead for clinical goverance at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Dr. Hartley completed his undergraduate training at Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Medical School in 2013. During his studies, he intercalated in Pharmacology and was awarded 1st Class Honours as well as the ‘Best Intercalating Student in Pharmacology Award’. He was also granted a scholarship from the British Heart Foundation. Between 2013 and 2016, Dr. Hartley completed his general medical training in North West London, which included placements in Cardiology, Heart and Lung Transplantation, and Respiratory Medicine. In 2016, he was awarded a Merit for completing a Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Education from Cardiff University. From 2017 to 2019, Dr. Hartley was appointed as a National Institute for Health Research Academic Clinical Fellow in Cardiology at Imperial College London and Specialist Registrar at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. During this time, he completed his general cardiology training. Dr. Hartley holds a PhD in Cardiovascular Sciences from the NHLI, Imperial College London, where his research focused on the prediction, detection, and treatment of atherosclerotic plaques that are at high risk of rupturing, which are often the cause of heart attacks. His work was supported by a Wellcome Trust PhD Fellowship. He has received several accolades for his research, including a Basic Science Registration Grant from the European Society of Cardiology, and was a finalist for the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society Young Investigator Award and the Royal Society of Medicine Cardiology President’s Prize. He has been elected to Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians as well as Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology. Clinically, Dr. Hartley is highly skilled in general cardiology, with a particular focus on chest pain, coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, and performing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). He is also actively involved in academic publishing and serves as a review editor on the editorial board of Cardiovascular Drug Delivery, a specialty section of Frontiers in Drug Delivery. Additionally, he is a topic editor for British Medical Journal Best Practice in areas including acute heart failure, NSTEMI, STEMI, new-onset atrial fibrillation, and unstable angina. Dr. Hartley has been a member of the board of directors for the Imperial Vulnerable Plaque Meeting since 2021.
