Dr Abubacker Siddiq Pulakal is a Consultant in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine with over 25 years of clinical experience. He is the Clinical Lead of the Department of Sleep Medicine at the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) and sees private patients at Pall Mall Medical Manchester.
Dr Pulakal completed his MBBS degree at Katsurba Medical College, India in 1991, after which he undertook a MD in Internal Medicine at Bangalore University, India, graduating in 1995. He then began practicing at Baby Memorial Hospital in Calicut, India, leaving in 1996. He later moved to the UK and was awarded his Membership with the Royal College of Physicians of London in 1997.
Dr Pulakal entered the General Medical Council's (GMC) specialist register as a specialist in Internal Medicine and Respiratory Medicine in 2005 and was appointed as a Consultant Respiratory Physician at the University Hospital South Manchester and Clinical Lead at MFT in the same year. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London in 2008 and completed his Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education at the University of Manchester in 2010.
Dr Pulakal has expertise in all areas of respiratory and sleep medicine. At Pall Mall Medical Manchester, he regularly diagnoses several respiratory disorders and sleep disorders, including narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnoea, COPD, asthma and REM behaviour disorder. He offers overnight sleep tests (e.g. sleep oximetry) and consultations.
