Thanks to groundbreaking advancements in medical technology, modern radiotherapy treatments can accurately target cancerous areas and tumours with minimal damage to surrounding healthy tissue. This allows for higher-dose radiation beams to be applied during each session, reducing the number of treatment sessions required.
The type of radiotherapy treatment prescribed to each patient depends on the type and position of the tumour. Prior to commencing any radiotherapy treatment, your clinical oncologist will discuss with you in detail which option would best suit your condition.
The London Radiotherapy Centre offers a range of key benefits to patients undergoing radiotherapy treatment. Patients can benefit from pioneering treatment techniques, which use advanced technology such as the TrueBeam to provide highly accurate and effective treatment. Treatment plans are led by experienced consultants and supported by a dedicated team of radiographers who are available throughout the treatment process. On-site treatment planning facilities are led by expert physicists and dosimetrists, and patients can also access on-site CT imaging to ensure regular scanning throughout the treatment process for the most accurate techniques. The centre also offers an on-site mould room for patients who require radiotherapy treatment to the head or neck.
In addition to these clinical services, patients and their families can access counselling and emotional support, as well as helpful administrative teams with experience in assisting patients undergoing radiotherapy. The centre provides direct access to inpatient and outpatient services through its sister site, London Bridge Hospital, including chemotherapy daycare. Dedicated international patient liaison teams and services are also available to support patients from overseas.
