Pursuing advanced specialisation, he undertook a fellowship in Nephropathology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 2009 to 2010, followed by a urologic pathology fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, which he completed in 2012.
He is actively involved in the medical community and holds memberships in several professional organisations. Dr Alhussain is the founder and president of the Saudi Society for Anatomic Pathology. He is also a member of the International Society of Nephrology Renal Pathology Working Group and the International Collaboration on Cancer Reporting (ICCR) Prostate Dataset Authoring Committee.
