General Surgery
About
Mr Banting’s connection with St Vincent’s spans his entire medical career, beginning as a medical student before progressing through internship, residency, and specialist training. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1990 and became the first fellow in hepatobiliary surgery under the guidance of Mr Ivo Vellar. Further advanced training in Scotland, in both Dundee and Edinburgh, broadened his expertise to include laparoscopic surgery and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).
In addition to his clinical practice, Mr Banting has held senior professional positions, including serving as Chief Examiner in General Surgery for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He has a strong commitment to research and education, contributing regularly to surgical literature and presenting at leading national and international forums.
Mr Banting continues to provide specialist hepatobiliary surgical care to patients across Melbourne and regional Victoria, with particular expertise in liver, pancreatic, biliary, and adrenal surgery.
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
