About Dr Ram Dhotarkar
Ram Dhotarkar is an experienced Consultant in Pain Management and Anaesthetics with over 12 years’ specialist experience in pain medicine. He currently works as a substantive NHS Consultant at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust and also runs a well-established private practice across Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire, with pain clinics in Reading, Townlands Hospital (Henley), and High Wycombe. Ram is widely regarded for delivering high-quality, patient-centred care and consistently receives excellent ratings for clinical effectiveness and patient satisfaction. Dr Dhotarkar completed advanced specialist training in Anaesthetics and Pain Medicine in the UK, achieving his CCT through the Oxford Deanery. He undertook prestigious advanced pain fellowships at University College London and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, having previously gained extensive experience at Oxford University Hospitals. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2018, followed by Fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Royal College of Anaesthetists. He originally graduated with honours in 2003 and obtained an MD in Anaesthetics from Mumbai University before relocating to the UK. His clinical expertise includes musculoskeletal and spinal pain, ultrasound-guided pain interventions, spinal procedures, and the management of persistent post-surgical pain, including ongoing pain following joint replacement surgery. He has a particular interest in conditions such as low back pain, sciatica, nerve root pain, neuropathic pain, complex regional pain syndrome, fibromyalgia, and persistent pain affecting the knee, hip, and shoulder. He also offers advanced interventional treatments such as radiofrequency denervation and frequently uses combined ultrasound and fluoroscopy (CUF) techniques to enhance the safety and effectiveness of procedures. Dr Dhotarkar works closely with specialist pain physiotherapists, psychologists, and spinal surgeons, partnering with patients to develop individualised management plans that address both physical and psychological aspects of pain. He is also actively involved in transitional pain services, an evolving area of pain medicine in the UK aimed at preventing long-term post-operative pain. Alongside his clinical work, Dr Dhotarkar is a faculty tutor for the Royal College and regularly teaches on national and international courses in ultrasound-guided pain interventions and regional anaesthetic techniques. He has published in the field of pain management and has presented his work at both national and international meetings.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
