Prof. Dr. Raj Mookerjee
Hepatology
About
At the forefront of hepatology research, Professor Mookerjee focuses on the complications of chronic liver disease and liver failure. His work includes the development of innovative therapies for portal hypertension and cirrhosis complications, integrating remote monitoring technologies and novel biomarkers for early intervention and disease progression assessment. Notably, Professor Mookerjee led the trial of the CirrhoCare app, enabling remote monitoring of liver disease patients by hepatologists.
Professor Mookerjee's academic background includes a First Class BSc and a Distinction MBBS from University College London (UCL), followed by specialised training in gastroenterology and hepatology within the Central and North London Deanery. He completed his PhD on new mechanisms for portal hypertension while undertaking liver transplantation experience at The Royal Free. Since completing his specialist training in 2005, Professor Mookerjee has held consultant hepatologist positions, leading services at UCLH and later at the Royal Free Liver and Transplantation Unit.
In addition to his clinical practice, Professor Mookerjee holds esteemed academic appointments as Professor of Translational Hepatology at University College London and Skou Professor of Hepatology at Aarhus University in Denmark. He actively contributes to the development of international guidelines for managing cirrhosis complications and holds leadership positions within national hepatology organisations.
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
