About Prof Toby Richards
Professor Toby Richards BSc. MBBS. MRCS. FRCS. MD. FRACS. DiPOM. Professor Richards is the Lawrence Brown Chair in Vascular Surgery. He is also Honorary Professor at the Institute of Clinical Trials and Methodology, University College London (UCL) and Honorary Professor of Anaesthesia at Monash University. Trained at St Bartholomew's Medical School, London he graduated in 1995 with distinction. Surgical training in Oxford was followed by advanced vascular fellowships in Nottingham and Melbourne. As a consultant he practiced for 10 years at UCLH, being promoted to full Professor at UCL in 2015 before taking up a 5 year post as the Lawrence Brown Chair in Vascular Surgery in Australia. Professor Richards is a specialist vascular surgeon, accredited in the UK (FRCS) and Australia (FRACS), with 20 years experience in all areas of open and endovascular techniques. He has been actively involved in pioneering the development of endovascular surgery, integrated carotid and stroke pathways as well as complex venous disease and DVT management. As a specialist vascular surgeon, Professor Richards brings a range and breadth of experience, ability and knowledge to patient care. He is able to offer indepth informed opinions coupled with the full range of treatment options for both open and endovascular surgery. He can ensure the best care to improve his patients health and welfare. Professor Richards also specialises in clinical trials and translational research bringing together teams of experts directed to a clinical problem. He lead the clinical trials units at UCL and UWA spcialising in patient centered research and translational science. With > $20M in research funding his team has produced > 200 peer reviewed manuscripts with >12,000 citations & > 30,000 downloads. Outputs include ground breaking trials and international guidelines in journals such as The Lancet and British Journal of Surgery. Diseases, Medical Tests and Treatments VENOUS DISEASE - varicose veins (RFA, EVLT sclerotherapy) venous insufficiency, acute & chronic DVT management and complex venous stenting and reconstruction. CAROTID DISEASE - Stroke management, Cartoid Endarterectomy & Stenting AORTIC DISEASE - AAA open and EVAR as well as complex Aortic Management PERIPHERAL VASCULAR DISEASE - lower limb bypass and a full range of minimally invasive angioplasty, stenting, atherectomy, shockwave etc. and diabetic foot disease.
