Professor Robin Choudhury is a highly experienced cardiologist, working for over 20 years as a consultant. He specialises in general and preventive cardiology, addressing a range of conditions such as chest pain, palpitation, atrial fibrillation, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. He has a particular expertise in emerging cardiovascular risk factors related to genetic risk, cholesterol, diabetes, inflammation, and lipoprotein(a). He sees many patients who are concerned about their familiy history of heart diease.
Professor Choudhury is an expert in assessing and managing cardiovascular risk. He established The PIT-STOP®, one of the UK's first integrated care programmes aimed at personalised cardiovascular risk management, appyling the latest evidence and using the most effective and current therapies. The programme focuses on primary treatment for individuals looking to assess and minimise their risk of heart disease and secondary treatment optimization for those who have experienced a heart attack, stent, or bypass surgery, with the goal of minimising recurrence or disease progression.
He is an honorary consultant cardiologist at the Oxford Heart Centre and the founding director of the Oxford Acute Vascular Imaging Centre. In addition to his clinical practice, Professor Choudhury is a Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Oxford and practices privately at OneWelbeck in London.
Professor Choudhury graduated in medicine from the University of Oxford and completed his postgraduate training at The Royal Brompton and Hammersmith Hospitals in London, as well as Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. He served as the president of the Royal Society of Medicine Section on Lipids, Metabolism, and Vascular Risk. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (London), the American College of Cardiology, and the European Society of Cardiology. Additionally, he is a Fellow of Balliol College, Oxford. He has contributed extensively to medical research literature, publishing over 250 peer-reviewed papers with a focus on vascular disease, cholesterol, and inflammation.
Professor Choudhury served as Section Editor for Clinical Cardiology in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and is co-editor of Emergencies in Cardiology (3rd Edition, OUP, 2026). He led a project in 2013 using magnetic resonance imaging to test Leonardo da Vinci’s hypothesis on blood flow across the aortic valve. His book, The Beating Heart (Bloomsbury 2024), is a cultural history told through depictions of the heart.
