About
He completed his Medical degree in London before earning a PhD from Oxford University and then moving to Harvard Medical School to continue his research. On returning to the UK, he established a new academic rheumatology unit and became the first Professor of Rheumatology in Liverpool. He is now Director of the National Centre for Behçet's Syndrome and also set up the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) Centre for Excellence in Rheumatology Research, Liverpool, positions he is proud to hold.
Much of Professor Moots' time is dedicated to research, allowing him to translate advances in understanding and treating diseases into delivery of the highest quality of care. He regular receives referrals from around the UK, and many other parts of the world. He has been editor-in-chief of Rheumatology, a trustee of the British Society for Rheumatology and helps lead the growth of rheumatology expertise in developing countries. He also provides consultancy advice to the UK National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and works closely with the pharmaceutical Industry at a global level to improve treatment for musculoskeletal diseases.
He has been awarded The Heberden Round Prize, The Gold National Clinical Excellence award and The Michael Mason prize for Rheumatology and has more than 260 publications in high profile international Journals, together with textbooks (and chapters for textbooks) for rheumatological diseases.
