Dr Poonamallee Govindaraj is a highly experienced Consultant Paediatrician with more than 25 years of clinical experience in paediatrics and over 16 years working as a consultant within the NHS. He currently practises as a Consultant Paediatrician in the NHS, providing comprehensive care for children across the full spectrum of general paediatric conditions.
Dr Govindaraj graduated in medicine from the University of Madras in 1993 and completed his postgraduate training in Paediatrics in 1997. He later undertook UK paediatric specialty training through the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, completing this in 2009.
He is confident in assessing and managing all general paediatric problems and has a particular special interest in paediatric cardiology. His expertise includes the assessment of heart murmurs, palpitations, syncope, and chest pain in children, with advanced skills in paediatric echocardiography.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Govindaraj plays an active leadership and educational role. He is an Advanced Paediatric Life Support instructor. He is a member of the Welsh Paediatric Cardiovascular Network, the Welsh Paediatric Simulation Group, the Bronchiolitis Steering Group, and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. In 2019, he further strengthened his leadership skills by completing a Clinical Leadership Programme with Academi Wales.
