About A/Prof Peter Hand
Associate Professor Peter Hand is a highly experienced consultant neurologist based at Neurology Network Melbourne. He specialises in headache and stroke treatment and has published his work in these areas in numerous medical journals. He currently consults from Fitzroy and St Kilda Road, as well as the Alfred Hospital Stroke Unit and Monash University. Professor Hand first graduated in 1991 with his MBBS from Monash University before completing his higher neurology training at the Radcliff Infirmary and the Alfred Hospital. Following this, he undertook a fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians which he finished in 1999. In 2002, he was awarded an MD degree for his research on acute stroke which was carried out at Edinburgh University. Prior to his current role, Professor Hand spent time as the deputy director of neurology at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. He has also held other senior roles in a number of organisations such as the New Zealand Association of Neurologists and the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. Professor Hand is currently the clinical lead of the Safer Care Victoria's Stroke Clinical Network which aims to improve medical treatment and management of the condition.
