About Penny Fooks
Penny Fooks is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist, specialising in working with individuals aged 45 years and over. She chose to focus on this specific client group due to her passion for addressing the unique challenges they face. While her work has predominantly been in mental health, Penny also has experience supporting individuals with physical health problems and pain. Her clients typically seek help for a variety of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, and experiences of loss, whether through bereavement or other significant life changes. Penny recognises that these are often painful yet natural aspects of growing older. She understands that at times, people may feel as though they have “lost their way,” and finds it deeply rewarding to help individuals navigate through these challenges and work towards a more fulfilling and meaningful life. Penny also assists individuals concerned about potential dementia, which is a common worry as people notice changes in their memory and thinking. While many of these concerns are often unfounded, Penny helps clients explore their concerns, decide on the best course of action, and learn how to manage memory lapses. She completed her undergraduate studies in Psychology at Portsmouth University and went on to complete her professional training as a Clinical Psychologist at the Salomons Centre in 1992. Penny has worked in the NHS since then, across Kent, Suffolk, and Hampshire. In addition to her private practice, she continues to work part-time in the Older People’s Mental Health Division of Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust. Penny is a member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and is registered with the Health Professions Council (HCPC). She is listed on the Chartered Members list of the BPS and on the Register of Practitioner Psychologists (HCPC).
