Professor Munjed Al Muderis is an esteemed Orthopaedic Surgeon who is also a clinical lecturer at Macquarie University and The Australian School Of Advanced Medicine. He has specialist expertise in hip, knee, trauma and osseointegration surgery. He is a fellow of the highly respected Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and Chairman of the Osseointegration Group of Australia.
He is a graduate of Baghdad College High School (The American Jesuit), and went on to study medicine at Baghdad University from 1991 to 1997. Professor Al Muderis' first job in Australia was at Mildura Base Hospital as an Emergency Unit and Orthopaedic Resident. After this he moved to Melbourne where he took a position as a Surgical Registrar at the Austin Repatriation Hospital. His career then led him to Wollongong Hospital where spent a year working as an Orthopaedic Registrar before moving on to Canberra Hospital for another year. In 2004 Professor Al Muderis joined the Australian Orthopaedic Training Program and eventually obtained his fellowship, FRACS (Orth), in 2008.
Professor Al Muderis continued his education by completing three post specialisation fellowships. First, he attended a six month national fellowship in Sydney with Dr Ali Gursel in Lower Limb Arthroplasty at the Sydney Adventist and Baulkham Hills Hospitals. Next, he moved overseas to Berlin, Germany where he completed a nine month fellowship in Hip and Knee Arthroplasty with Prof. Dr. Med. Jorg Scholz at the Emil von Behring Hospital. Lastly, his third post was a three month Trauma Fellowship with Prof. Dr. Med. Axel Ekkernkamp at the Unfallkrankenhaus Berlin (UKB).
He is a renowned specialist in hip, knee and trauma surgery, with a particular focus on hip arthroscopy, resurfacing, minimally invasive hip arthroplasty, knee arthroplasty and reconstruction of recurrent patellar dislocations. He is also recognised as a leading surgeon in the field of osseointegration surgery.
