About Mr Simon Stapleton
Mr Stapleton has many years experience in the management of brain tumours (neuro-oncology including skull base and pituitary tumours). This includes tumours arising primarily in the brain such as low grade gliomas and glioblastomas as well as meningiomas. He also treats cancers that have spread to the brain (metastases) from elsewhere in the body and works closely with the neurooncologists and radiotherapists at the Royal Marsden Hospital and at the St Luke's Cancer Centre in Guildford. He also see patients with back pain and sciatica as well as neck and arm pain. He undertakes surgery for slipped discs and spinal stenosis in both the neck and back. Surgery is usually not necessary but a full assessment and management plan is arranged in association with physiotherapy or pain management teams. He also treats paediatric conditions of the brain and spine including injuries, back pain, spina bifida, shunts and tumours. Endoscopic surgery for piyuitary and skull base tumours Spinal surgery for lumbar slipped discs (microdiscectomy) and spinal decompression for stenosis or nerve root compression Anterior cervical discectomy with fusion & cervical foraminotomy Surgery for hydrocephalus including shunts and endoscopic third ventriculostomy Surgery for spina bifida and occult spinal dysraphism Surgery for intractable epilepsy
