About Mr Martin Kurzer
Mr Martin Kurzer is a hernia specialist. He was one of the first surgeons in the UK to advocate the use of mesh for all abdominal hernias. Mr Kurzer has a special interest in local anaesthetic day-case surgery. He regularly speaks at conferences in the UK and abroad, and has published many notable articles and co-authored books on hernia surgery. Mr Kurzer qualified from University College London in 1975. He trained as a surgeon at University College Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital, London, and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1980. Through his work as a surgeon, Mr Kurzer has realised the importance of some of the non-technical skills for good clinical practice, such as communication, with both patients and colleagues. He believes that poor communication is a major factor in operating room errors and litigation.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
