Orthopaedic Surgery
About
During his specialist training as a University Lecturer and Specialist Registrar in Bristol, Mr Eldridge gained comprehensive experience across general orthopaedic surgery, research, teaching, and audit. He achieved his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training and joined the General Medical Council’s Specialist Register in 2001.
Mr Eldridge developed a strong interest in lower limb surgery early in his career, completing a prestigious clinical fellowship at the North Sydney Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre during the Olympic year, followed by a European Travelling Fellowship. He continues to work part-time in the NHS, providing specialist knee care to patients from across the UK. His private practice is based at the Spire Hospital in Bristol and the award-winning Circle Hospital in Bath. His clinical work encompasses the full spectrum of knee surgery, including arthroscopy, cartilage repair and removal, complex ligament reconstruction, cartilage grafting, and both partial and total knee replacement.
Mr Eldridge is recognised as a pioneer in the treatment of patella instability, particularly through the use of trochleoplasty combined with ligament reconstruction. He is also closely involved in the development of new technologies in cartilage, ligament, and joint replacement surgery. His research interests include knee anatomy, meniscal repair, graft selection in ligament reconstruction, patellofemoral joint mechanics, arthritis prevention, and implant design. He publishes regularly in peer-reviewed journals, supervises higher-degree research projects, and collaborates with leading centres nationally and internationally.
Teaching remains a central part of his professional identity. Having taught throughout his training, he continues to lecture widely, contribute to surgical skills courses, and serve as invited faculty at major conferences. He also co-convenes instructional meetings for consultants and trainees and provides education for GPs, physiotherapists, nurses, and junior doctors.
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
