Professor Ahmed is a specialist Consultant in Advanced Laparoscopic surgery and Gastrointestinal Surgery and is an Associate Professor in Metabolic Surgery at Imperial College London. During his training, he undertook a research degree into the mechanisms of complications of gastric bypass surgery and was awarded a PhD by Imperial College London for his work. He has over a 99% success rate in preventing open surgery during his laparoscopic procedures. Over his career, he has performed over 10000 laparoscopic bariatric surgeries. He receives referrals from across the UK and abroad. He is regularly consulted for his opinion and feedback on highly complex bariatric cases. He imparts his expansive knowledge by training fellow surgeons in bariatric surgery and is involved with many professional courses on bariatric surgery.
His Imperial Weight Centre bariatric surgery unit has been appointed as an International Centre of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery.
