About

Mr. Michael Hart is a Senior Lecturer in Neurosurgery and Honorary Consultant Neurosurgeon. He holds a PhD in Brain Mapping from the University of Cambridge, which he obtained in 2017. Prior to his doctoral studies, he completed his medical education at the University of Edinburgh, earning an MBChB in Medicine in 2006. He also holds a BSc (hons) in Physiology from the University of Edinburgh, which he obtained in 2004.

With a specialisation in functional neurosurgery, Mr. Hart's clinical interests encompass a wide range of areas, including movement disorders, pain, and epilepsy. He has undergone fellowships at renowned institutions such as St George's Hospital in the UK, as well as in Montpellier, France, and Vancouver, Canada, to acquire specialised expertise in these domains while enhancing his comprehensive neurosurgery training at the University of Cambridge.

In his academic pursuits, Mr. Hart places a strong emphasis on maximising the benefits and minimising potential harm in functional neurosurgery. He utilises cutting-edge neuroimaging techniques, such as ultra-high field 7T MRI and connectomics, to gain a deeper understanding of disease mechanisms, particularly thalamic sensori-motor disintegration, and to identify innovative treatment targets through tractography-based stimulation. He actively collaborates with industry partners to facilitate the translation of technological advancements into improved patient care.

With a dedication to providing comprehensive clinical and academic expertise in functional neurosurgery, Mr. Hart is committed to ensuring that patients can benefit from the latest advances in clinical practice, research discoveries, and technological innovations.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”

— Mr Michael Hart
