Dr Megan Roberts is a highly qualified and experienced consultant psychiatrist, who has been practising psychiatry for over 30 years. She completed her medical training at St. George's Hospital Medical School, London and obtained her Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 1986. She has been a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) since 1991. Dr Roberts has held several consultant psychiatry roles within the NHS, working in community, inpatient, and crisis teams.
She currently works as a consultant psychiatrist in Southampton, treating inpatients on the adult ward since 2016, where she is the lead clinician. Dr Roberts has been working as a visiting consultant at Priory Hospital Southampton since 2012, providing regular clinics.
Dr Roberts has a particular interest in treating individuals with depression and anxiety disorders, with a specific focus on women's mental health. She is a great advocate for involving the family in treating any individual when this suits the individual and will always respect the wishes of the individual she treats. Dr Roberts has become interested in the role of autistic spectrum disorders (ASDs) in functioning on a day-to-day basis, both in younger and older adults, using the ADOS-2 for reliable diagnosis.
Dr Roberts practises an evidence-based approach to treatment but will always listen to the request of the individual and advise on the latest treatment appropriate for any diagnosed condition. She provides outpatient clinics at Priory Hospital Southampton (Marchwood) and Priory Wellbeing Centre Southampton as well as Hampshire Health Emsworth. She treats a wide range of mental disorders and stress-related illnesses, and is particularly interested in women’s mental health and the link between hormonal variation and mood disorders and psychosis.
