About Dr Karen McKertich
Dr Karen McKertich specialises in urology and consults at the Australian Urology Associates in Malvern and the Cabrini Hospital in Malvern and Brighton. Her public appointment is at the Alfred Hospital and she also runs the Bayside Urology Continence Clinic at Caulfield Hospital. Dr McKertich treats all areas of general urology with specialisation in the following conditions: Stress urinary incontinence in men and women Urge urinary incontinence and overactive bladder in men and women Neurological conditions affecting the urinary tract e.g. related to spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis Female urology including prolapse Dr McKertich offers a comprehensive assessment including evaluation with fluoroscopic urodynamics. She is dedicated to improving the quality of life for those affected by urological conditions and focuses on non-surgical treatments and minimally invasive surgical procedures such as slings, botulinum toxin, and interstim neuromodulation. Dr McKertich graduated top of her class in 1991 from the University of Melbourne Medical School and completed her postgraduate training in female urology, neuro-urology, and voiding abnormalities, obtaining her fellowship in urological surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) in 2000. She then further specialised in female urology, neurourology and urodynamics, prolapse and incontinence surgery. Dr McKertich has a passion for teaching and lectures at undergraduate and postgraduate level. She is also involved in clinical research into incontinence. Dr McKertich is a member of the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand (USANZ) and is currently the chair of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Urological Surgeons (ANZAUS).
