Later, he pursued specialist general surgical training in Monash Health in Australia, where he obtained Fellowship of Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2014. He received his post-fellowship breast and endocrine surgery training in several prestigious hospitals in Australia, finishing in 2017. He obtained his Master of Surgery in Breast Surgery from Sydney University and Certificate in Clinician-Performed Ultrasound (CCPU) for breast and endocrine surgery practice in 2019.

Dr James is a consultant breast, endocrine, and general surgeon at Eastern Health in Melbourne and is a surgical member of Maroondah Breast Screen. He also provides acute general surgery at Box Hill Hospital. In addition, he is actively involved in clinical research and teaching, with several publications in international peer-reviewed journals and a current honorary appointment as a Senior Lecturer at Monash University.
