About

Dr Joel Rabindran is a fellowship-trained general surgeon subspecialising in bariatric (weight-loss) surgery, upper gastrointestinal (UGI) surgery, and advanced endoscopy. He is committed to delivering evidence-based, patient-centred care with a focus on long-term health outcomes, safety, and quality of life.

Dr Rabindran completed his medical degree at The University of Sydney and underwent General Surgery training through the Central Sydney training network, primarily at RPA (Royal Prince Alfred) and Concord Hospitals. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in General Surgery in 2022.

He has undertaken extensive post-fellowship subspecialty training in both New South Wales and Victoria. He was awarded a fellowship grant with the J.W. & M. Cunningham Foundation, completing an advanced upper gastrointestinal & hernia surgery fellowship at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney, followed by dedicated bariatric and metabolic surgery fellowships at Box Hill Hospital, Eastern Health through the ANZMOSS Fellows Program (Australian and New Zealand Metabolic and Obesity Surgical Society).

His practice covers all general surgery conditions with a subspecialty focus on bariatric and metabolic surgery (with experience in both primary and revisional procedures), reflux and benign upper GI conditions, hernia surgery, and diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. He is certified in adult gastroscopy and colonoscopy (with completion of recertification for ongoing competency) through the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA).

Dr Rabindran has flexibility to see patients throughout Melbourne's eastern suburbs with a range of available locations including consulting rooms in Aspendale Gardens & Chirnside Park; operating theatres at Mulgrave, Knox & Holmesglen Private Hospitals; and endoscopy & day surgery services at Waverley & Ringwood Private Hospitals with capacity to provide consulting services at all these locations where required. He works closely with multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive, personalised care from consultation through to long-term follow-up.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
