Mr. James Martin is an experienced physiotherapist who began his career after training at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and qualifying in 1980. He started his journey as a rotational physiotherapist in NHS Lanarkshire, working in one of their major Acute sites. Throughout his career, he has focused on different areas of physiotherapy, gaining expertise in various specialties.
In the early stages of his career, Mr. Martin specialised as an in-patient physiotherapist, providing care for respiratory, stroke, and rheumatology patients. He also trained as a Bobath physiotherapist during this time and played a crucial role in developing the stroke services at Gartnavel Hospital in Glasgow.
As he worked in a medical unit with a rheumatology department, Mr. Martin's interest shifted from stroke rehabilitation to musculoskeletal (MSK) issues. To enhance his skills in this area, he pursued further training in Cyriax and acupuncture and started working through the McKenzie modules. Later, he became the physiotherapy manager at Hairmyres Hospital in Lanarkshire, where he continued to develop his MSK expertise by completing the MACP course.
In addition to his work in the NHS, Mr. Martin had his own private practice and worked part-time as a physiotherapist for senior football clubs and films in Scotland.
In 2016, he decided to explore a new specialty within the MSK field and became an occupational health physiotherapist at a shipyard in Glasgow. In this role, he not only treated MSK issues but also performed ergonomic assessments for office staff and workers involved in the construction of warships.
Mr. Martin later joined HCA in June 2022, where he currently works at their Glasgow city centre office. With his wealth of experience and expertise in MSK physiotherapy and occupational health, he continues to provide high-quality care and support to his patients.
